Last September, I moved in to my new apartment. What I like about it is that it’s close to most of what I need to live my day to day life. Within 15 minutes of walk, I have 2 grocery stores (and soon there will be 3), a hardware store, clothing stores, a pharmacy and something like 5 different banks.

short walk to grocery store

But since September of 2011, almost every time I had to get something from the grocery store, I took my car. Now, for the past week I’ve been telling myself that I should start, or should I say return to my eco-coucious habits. Winter is almost out of the way in my part of Canada so I think it’s a perfect time for take action on my environmental footprint.

I also intend on going to bed earlier. This will most likely result in less electricity usage since light will be on for shorter periods of time.

So as I’m finishing writing this post, I’ll be walking to the grocery store to buy what I need for tomorrows breakfast and lunch. Let me know what you do to make a difference in your community in terms of your environmental footprint.

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is the world’s first production-ready hydrogen vehicle. Yes it can fully work on hydrogen which I believe make it the world most eco-friendly car.

If the Hydrogen is created from renewable energy, it makes it 100% clean. Than you may ask why can’t you find it in showrooms? Like they say in this video there is no infrastructure to support hydrogen refuelling. If oil producers turned themselves to ward’s making hydrogen instead of digging for oil and causing environmental disasters, we could truly be heading into a greener more sustainable world. But that’s just IF.

Ready to go for some green cooking. Well this video will show you just what you can do to reduce your impact on the environment and on your budget. Yes on your budget. Why, because meat is really expensive and there are alternatives eating meat. Something like tofu could be a great alternative. What is most impressive is that when you turn your steak stir fry into a tofu stir fry, you can save more than 15 dollars.

Chef Dana McCauley shares green cooking tips and tricks with CBC News in this interview. (5:00)(Larry Crowe/Associated Press)

From inhabitat:

One of the oldest museums in the Mid-West was recently relocated to an elegant new LEED Gold certified structure, garnering accolades from art aficionados and sustainability advocates alike. Earth Hour

In Toronto last night he local electrical utility reported an 8.7% drop in consumption during Earth Hour. This is really good. Toronto came close to 10.2% reduction set by Sydney Australia last year being the pioneer of this event. It’s nice to hear that Canadian try to make a difference in reducing global emissions.

 TheStar.com
Toronto hit its energy reduction target during Earth Hour last night, as tens of thousands of residents and businesses combined fun with a clear statement of concern about climate change.

The city, while not plunged into total darkness, took on an aura of magic and mystery as, one by one, lights blinked out and pedestrians gawked at normally brilliant towers transformed into eerie shadows.

Just before 9 o’clock, the meter at the Toronto Hydro control centre hit a low of 2,738 megawatts – 5 per cent below the demand an hour earlier and about 8.7 per cent less than the average for the past three years
